It has come to my attention that you have made an unauthorized use of my Louisiana trademarked name NOLAGraphics. I have reserved all rights in the Work, which was first trademarked in 2004. I have registered the trademark and have included a copy for your review. I realize that you may have registered the domain names nolagraphics.info and nolagraphics.net without knowing the specifics of the law. That be the case I will allow you to agreeably release the domains over to me via a godaddy account transfer and take the content down from said sites. Upon release of the domain names to my Godaddy account I will agree stop pursuing this violation and drop the matter completely.

Your sites entitled nolagraphics.info and nolagraphics.net are essentially identical to the names I have registered with the state of Louisiana and clearly you have used my trademarked name as its basis.

I demand that you immediately cease the use and distribution of all infringing uses
of the name, and all copies of it, and that you deliver to me all domain names registered under this trademark (a Godaddy account transfer can be easily setup), and that you desist from this or any other infringement of my rights in the future.

If I have not received an affirmative response from you by 30 days from the delivery of this email indicating that you have fully complied with these requirements, I shall (and have already been encouraged to do so by my legal counsel specializing in Internet law) take the full legal remedies available to me to rectify this situation.

Right so this as well applies to the web as well! If this big company (Compucast Interactive) thinks they are going to push around this freelancer defacing google with spammed irrelevant links and content (look for the obvious irrelevant content there) they can think again!

It looks like a very Compucast Interactive driven either, employee or client, has taken it upon themselves to register 2 domain names in a fraudulent attempt to gain search engine listings and MONEY (they are running google adsense on their blog). And even better yet they wont agree to show their name as they have registered these domains privately:

These also seem to be affiliated with
nolaseo.com whois info

oh wow and hey guess what, looks like I found the source of all this…
it appears that indeed as I thought a current compucast employee or contract writer of Compucast is the source of all of this. As you can see here from The author of the posts on their blog this is the same person that owns nolaseo.com which appears to be highly affiliated with the aforementioned sites.

oh wait hold on more suspecting evidence ….

let’s play devils advocate lets say that nolaseo.com and nolagraphics.info/.net all have nothing to do with each other then why oh why would they be using the SAME google advertisers code to gain profits off of? You can see if you look in the html of the page that these both link to the same google advertisers code pub-7518689483432069 which directly means that all these sites were indeed published by Shawn Plep of Gretna, La a compucast employee/writer.

so lets back up the reason that I even suspected that compucast or a compucast driven associate was behind all of this was this post on their blog

If an informed industry professional were to do an actual unbiased review of Compucast Interactive they would find that they do not do SEO as they claim, nor have their site historically been at all based on web standards, current trends or usability. What they, Compucast, calls SEO is actually them placing “footer links” on the sites they design to their portals. They feel this somehow helps their clients when in reality it just makes them look like a link farm.

so for them to say

Overall, Compucast is probably the best choice for web design and web hosting if you’re in the New Orleans area. You simply won’t find a better staff or reputation than what Compucast has.

is a bit biased don’t ya think? Oh and Mr. Shawn Plep .. I have an open question to you when you say:

Why don’t you list who else was reviewed and what was found.. WAS anyone else reviewed?When did this review take place, I wasn’t contacted. Weather or not Judy Weitz has personally sponsored this, Judy I call you out to request that your employee or affiliated writer take down these sites which put forth a LIE and also attempt to spam the search engines with incorrect or made up information.

The registration of these domain name also is in direct violation of Louisiana Trademark agreements as NOLAGraphics is a registered trademark in my name till 2014. Any use of such a registration is illegal and will be pursued in court. I suggest you take down the sites nolagraphics.net and nolagraphics.info and turn these domains over to me. You are welcome to talk about me or my website in any fashion on nolaseo.com and I will be glad to respond as such, as is the nature of the web. But the registration of the aforementioned trademarked name as a new domain name not register to ME(Marc Juneau) is NOT ok and is Illegal. I stand firmly on these grounds and encourage a response from both Judy Weitz and Shawn Plep, quickly.

This book looks fantastic! I have started reading it and while much of it is a review of things I have learned over the years its great to see it outlined as a specific part of the process.

This is indeed one of the books that alot of information on this blog will be coming from. I haven’t stopped underlining things in it since i got it!

Web Copy That Sells: The Revolutionary Formula for Creating Killer Copy Every Time

Writing on the web is VERY from writing for any other medium! I have for long a time tried to convince clients that its not enough to just grab your brochures and copy the exact same text onto the website. I find MANY free-lancersers’ and even some agencies still do this. In fact my former employer was famous for this. One of the sites they launched while I was there which demonstrates this is very well is Millennium Healthcare. After reading the copy within the site you can kinda gather that it came right out of a printed brochure:

• There are no clear calls to action to direct you to perform any sort of goal
• Much of the copy is long winded

From what i can see there are 3 main points this book focuses on that it outlines in the beginning as the:

THREE FUNDAMENTAL RULES FOR WRITING WEB COPY:

1. Don’t Make Your website look like an ad
2. Stop readers dead in their tracks
3. Capture email addresses

I cant wait to read more of this book as content is king and this guide indeed will help!

No One Cares What You Had for Lunch: 100 Ideas for Your Blog

This book looks hilarious! Its one of those books that you don’t necessarily read all the way through but your read a page or 2 a day to get inspiration. The premise of the book is to give you inspiration for writing your blog by showing funny examples of what other people have blogged about.

Check out the intro:

Jacob Likes: music, movies, pepperoni pizza, and hanging out with friends. Shelly spends more time with parakeets than most. Today Beth went to work came home, watched the Daily show(which is hilarious, btw), and had a Jenny Craig Island Chicken Meal (which was decent btw).

The popularity of blogging amazes and inspires m. Here are millions of people who’ve found a format that makes them eager to publish. For many bloggers, their sites are the first place they’ve voluntarily written or produced a project in their lives. This is huge. Its a renissance in personal expression! While I was employed at Compucast Interactive as one of the lead developers in August of 2007 they received notiriety for being the model of “business preparedness” in the wake of a disaster, Katrina. Now granted there are 2 things that Compucast did perform as a service for local business which were great (not necessary exemplary, as anyone with a similar high profile client list would of done this) , they

1. Setup several blast email lists for a few clients to communicate with employees
2. Setup a job board for the hospitality industry

What they didn’t do, which was the claim that got them the notiriety in the first place, was secure live synced dedicated internet servers in two locations across the country in preparation of a disaster. This was an extreme stretching of the truth and play on peoples misunderstanding of technology. In my opinion they only reason that they were even recognized was the high profile of the clients that she had and the ability which she “gave” them to communicate, email.

Now “gave” is a relative term here, if you consider someone that purchases insurance for their car a hero because their insurance company “gave” the person that was a passenger in their car money for a much needed surgery after getting into an accident well, then Judy Weitz is indeed a hero. This is essentially the same as what happened.

Judy weitz says

With the business now located in two cities on opposite sides of the country, we were confident all Web sites would continue to function if a hurricane were to hit New Orleans.

I, as one who understands technology, would interpret this to mean that if a web business were to be “located” on two opposite sides of the country that a live synced backup of the data would be concurrently running. This would mean that they would have to have live synced dedicated internet servers in two locations across the country. This in fact was NOT the case at all. The actual situation was that they had a dedicated server hosting account with a company out of San Francisco that had a service level agreement for redundancy. This hosting company had redundant servers running in San Fransisco and Pennsylvania. This DOES NOT mean that Compucast made any sort of special technology based disaster plans or even themselves had live redundant servers it means that the hosting company had redundancy, an industry standard for hosting companies.

In this case it seems that the only reason she got this award was because of the high profile of her client, The New Orleans Bar Association a collection of local law professionals, and their connections with the government. In my opinion Judy Weitz did nothing more than ANY OTHER responsible web development agency in the local area or elsewhere, this is not deserving of a nationally recognized award.

Simplified: Compucast Interactive purchased a dedicated server hosting account with a company not based in New Orleans and with no specific internal plans for a redundant backup of the live data being transmitted on their clients sites or the databases of their internal sites. Because their hosting company was not located in New Orleans when Katrina hit their clients did not lose email connectivity and they did not lose any data on their sole dedicated server, is this exemplary/worthy of notiriety?

It’s the only one that’s safe to visit by yourself, but
only in the daytime when you can see that other tourists are around.
Fascinating above-ground cemeteries; New Orleans cannot bury its dead
underground because of the water table. New Orleans is below sea level; a complex system of pumps, levees, and
dikes keeps the water from spilling into the city.

Maple Street Bookshop

Bookshop (the children’s bookstore next door was featured on the
American Express TV commercial.) This jam-packed shop resides in a rambling
old New Orleans shotgun-style house replete with gingerbread gewgaws
outside and richly creaky old wooden floors inside. Authors love this
place; they host lots of book signings with authors from around the
world. New Orleans boasts more than its fair share of writers; just
off the top of my head there’s Anne Rice, Andrei Codresciu, the
late Tennessee Williams, James Lee Burke (actually lives in New Iberia,
but he evokes the contemporary New Orleans atmosphere as well or better
than any other writer, living or dead).

N. Peters Street - Specializes in New Orleans music. Staff is incredibly
knowledgeable. Good selection of New Orleans music-related posters and
T-shirts, too.

(504) 899-9308 - If you’re uptown on St. Charles Avenue make sure
to stop in and see the beautiful, elegant bar inside, but the best part
is siting down to have a drink and people-watching on the beautiful
porch of the old hotel. Shaded by the majestic oak tress of the Garden
District, the veranda of this old hotel looks like something from “Gone
With the Wind.” And several nights a week there are jazz groups
performing in an ornate but intimate ballroom.

Decatur St. - Get a table out in the balcony overlooking the Mississippi,
order a foamy mug of Red Stallion and a plate of boiled crawfish and
potatoes, and ask the waiter to show you how to eat these mouth-watering
shellfish. “You gotta pinch da tails and suck da heads,”
as New Orleanians are fond of saying.

The Alpine
- If you’re looking for a non-tourist restaurant, but VERY good
food, my dad’s friend owns a great little restaurant in the French
Quarter. Its on Charters Street just one block down from the Cathedral
and Jackson Square.

Decatur Street, a muffelletta at Central Grocery store is essential
to your stay in New Orleans. (Central Grocery is an Italian grocery
store that smells incredible when you walk in there; if it’s too
crowded at Central walk two doors down to Progress Grocery store and
get a muffelletta-its just as good). A muffelleta is a New Orleans Italian
sandwich on incredibly delicious round Italian bread with salami, ham,
provolone cheese, olive salad, and olive oil on the bread, warmed! (One
is plenty enough to split between two people). I wish I was walking
in Central right now on my way to a muffelletta.

Praline Connection
Frenchman Street-Its been discovered, and you’ll probably have
to wait, but if you’re hankering for some great down-home soul-food
cooking, dis here’s da place! In Fabourg Marginy neighborhood,
just a couple of blocks from the French Quarter (which is bounded by
Esplanade on the Fabourg side and by Canal Street on the CBD side).

The park is located in a beautiful wooded area of about 50 acres right

Three Rivers Art Festival
Prolly one of the best art fest’s on the north shore!! Downtown Covington
closes of the streets and the gallery doors open wide welcoming guests
with wine, cheese, art and music by local artisans… also look for
the spring art openings in may every year those are usually a fun opening
as well

Northshore FOOD

La Caretta’s - 2 locations in hammond and mandeville
- I like the hammond one better…. really good mexican food try the
white cheese dip its DIVINE!!!

- Ok so you gotta try Turbo Dog, It’s a local favorite Dark Beer brewed
in abita springs (my dad’s office is in abita) just down the road from
mandeville (up hwy59)the brewery has a great resturant and a sampler

- Fancy Smancy italian resturant. Kinda pricey but definetly worth it.
This place was my standard for prom date/impress chic dinner.

Just Italy, 708 Aris Ave., will host a series of cooking classes that teach Italian cuisine fundamentals, history and techniques with tasting of regional product. Classes are being presented by local culinary historian and food editor Sandra Scalise Juneau, whose passion for teaching and writing about our regional food culture has been influenced particularly by her two Sicilian grandmothers who taught her about Italian traditions of food as art. Each class focuses on a specific menu course such as risotto, pastries and even Italian Christmas cookies.

Classes focus on the following:

• Risotto (savory and sweet rice dishes), Wed., Nov. 14
• Biscotti di Natale (Christmas Cookies), Wed., Dec. 5
• Dolci di Ricotta (sweetened ricotta desserts, such as cannoli, cassata and cassateda), Wed., Dec. 19

Classes are $30 per person including all cooking supplies and ingredients. Classes start at 7 p.m. Class sizes are limited; reservations are available by calling Just Italy at 504-832-9292.

Scalise Juneau, of Madisonville, is an instructor of Sicilian Pastry Arts at Nichols State University Culinary Institute and has served as a Culinary Arts Instructor at LSU-Baton Rouge and Southeastern University in Hammond. She also has served as a culinary history consultant for the Smithsonian Institute and for “The Encyclopedia of Cajun & Creole Cuisine” by Chef John D. Folse, CEC, AAC. She is food editor for Bonne Bouchee, a feature of InsideNorthside magazine.
